Kirtipur Mahotsav, the first grand success of Nepal Tourism Year 2011


Kirtipur Mahotsav held to promote Kirtipur as a historic, cultural and tourist destination concluded on Sunday.
Local residents in collaboration with the Nepal Tourism Board organised the five-day festival to publicise Kirtipur, which has remained overshadowed despite having immense tourism potential, targeting Nepal Tourism Year 2011.
According to the organisers, around 100,000 people visited the festival that saw transaction of around Rs. 5.5 million.
“We are highly encouraged by the huge participation,” said Sabin Joshi, media coordinator of the Mahotsav. “The event has helped develop Kirtipur as a tourist hub.”
Cultural show, Laxmi Puja, Mha Puja, Kija Puja, Bhintuna, Indrayani Jatra, Bhelu, Lakhay and Sithi Nakha were some of the main attractions of the festival, organised in 18 places of the city.
Various costumes, utensils and other items that portray Kirtipur lifestyle were also displayed on the occasion. Shakya said food items, local culture, musical instruments and various types of dances, among others, added colour to the event.
