Lakhe Competition2068

As we all know that the traditional Lakhe Dance is on the verge of extinction and it needs to be protected and preserved for our future generation especially for the Newari community. Not often do people get to witness a reincarnation of a dancing demon enthralling the crowd gathered in the god's court.

Keeping these facts in mind, Narayangarh Bus Park Tol Sudhar tatha Bus Byawasthapan Samiti, has decided to organize this National Lakhe Dance Competition. This is the third time we are organizing this competition. The first and second ones were held in 2064 and 2065 BS. This third lakhe dance competition is scheduled to be held on September 21 and 22, 2010.

We are expecting more than 20 different teams from all over Nepal to participate in the competition. Invitations have been forwarded to 30 teams. The last date for the entry is on Friday 17 September.

On the first day, we are organizing a "Shova Rally" which will be accompanied by newari traditional music, teams, organizers, volunteers and members of various local organizations. The rally will proceed with each team performing the lakhe dance with music which will go around the town.

On the second day or the final day, in the evening, the real competition will be held at Nararyangarh Bus Park premises. Each team will have 15 minutes time to perform their Lakhe Dance infront of the local spectators. The three judges will evaluate the lakhe dance.

The cash prize will be awarded for the winners. The winner will bag 30,000 rupees. The runner up will receive Rs. 20,000 and the second runner up will be given Rs. 10,000. All the other teams will receive Rs. 5,000 for their participation.

This event is an attempt to unite newars to preserve our Newari culture and traditions as well as to encourage other newari communities to initiate programs as such to protect our identity.
